COVID-19 Update

The coronavirus (COVID-19) situation is constantly changing, our priority remains unchanged - the health and safety of our employees, customers and the whole community. 

To give you an overview of what we're doing to protect people and assist authorities in their efforts to slow the spread of the virus, here are some of the measures we have in place. 

Location Hours 

Majority of our 180 locations are open and fully operational but due to current travel restrictions around Australia and changes to flight schedules at airports, Thrifty Australia has adjusted operating hours of some of our locations or are temporary closed.

We would like to reassure our customers that we are open for business in Victoria with all our locations operational, with the exception of our Melbourne Airport and City branches.

We do advise all customers travelling in Victoria to check the government advice on travel restrictions such as Healthdirect Australia Restriction Checker.

Information on the COVIDSafe App

Most of us would have seen that the Australian Government Department of Health is rolling out the COVIDSafe app to help health officials conduct contact tracing to stop the spread of COVID-19. The app has been built to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by assisting health professionals to contact people who come into close proximity with someone who is diagnosed with the virus. Downloading the app is completely voluntary. If you are wondering whether or not to download it and are looking for information, you can find out more here.

What we are doing to keep you safe

Peace of mind when you travel especially in times like this is critical. At Thrifty we have implemented rigorous hygiene standards and adopted safe work practices in regard to our vehicles and our locations to learn more here.

Modifications and cancellations to bookings are easy

At Thrifty we offer peace of mind with your car rental bookings and offer flexible bookings with no cancellation fees and options to modify your booking at any time, so if your car rental is impacted by Covid 19 don’t hesitate to get in touch with us or update your booking online.

Simply visit and click on the View/Modify/Cancel booking tab on the website, you will need to enter your email address and booking number or you can email us at

If you have not booked directly with Thrifty, please contact your booking agent to make changes to your booking and they will notify us directly.

Here to help Health Care Workers campaign

Since launching our Here to Help campaign for our Health Care heroes in April and May: offering free car rentals to our front line workers, we have provided over 550 vehicles with more than 13,700 days of free care hire to keep them safe on their journey. We also were nominated for a Choice: Shiny Award recognising kindness during Covid 19 Pandemic.
