Car Rental Smithfield Downtown

Smithfield is an outer suburb of Sydney, located just 25 kilometres or a 35-minute drive from the heart of the Sydney CBD. This location gives you access to the best of Sydney, from museums, art galleries, restaurants, national parks and more. In Smithfield, you will also find great places to rest and relax during your stay in Sydney, with supermarkets, parks, restaurants, boutique shops and pubs dotted through the suburb. Smithfield is home to the largest industrial estate in the southern hemisphere.

The main attribute of Smithfield is its proximity to both the Sydney CBD and the national parks that lie to the west of the city, such as the Blue Mountains National Park.

Take in some Free Culture in Your Rental Car

Many think that Sydney is an expensive travel location, but that doesn’t have to be the case, with free museums and art galleries all within driving distance of Smithfield in your car hire. Take in some culture at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. The gallery space is always exhibiting something interesting and unique; multiple exhibitions are running at any given time. The collection includes works from local, national and international artists spread over multiple floors. Check out the website to see what’s on during your time in NSW, or just show up and be surprised.

The Art Gallery of NSW is housed in a magnificent building that will be part of a heritage tour of Sydney if you choose to take one. The gallery just celebrated 150 years as Sydney’s most influential public gallery. At the gallery, you can see the largest permanent exhibitions of Aboriginal art and Torres Strait Islander art, as well as a wide range of contemporary Australian art. Also on site is a cinema that shows interesting and unique films, from 35mm original prints to contemporary releases. Visit the café and gallery shop with all purchases directly supporting the gallery.

If the Gallery of NSW is the most important public gallery, then the Australian Museum is certainly the most important museum. Known for its impressive collection of over 21 million objects, the museum is home to permanent and travelling exhibitions. Learn about Aboriginal culture, strange animals, fossils and more. There is something for all age groups, with dinosaurs being a particular favourite for everyone and anyone.

With interesting workshops and events such as Music at the Museum, held regularly, it is certainly worth checking out the website to see what unique happenings are currently happening at the museum. You could spend an entire day just at the museum taking in every exhibit, and why not? You’ll find so much history and so many artefacts here you can’t see anywhere else in the world.

Other free museums and galleries in Sydney include the Australian National Maritime Museum, located next to Darling Harbour, the Reserve Bank of Australia Museum on Martin Place, the White Rabbit Gallery near Central Station and the galleries housed inside the State Library.
