Learn about the history of the town as you wander through. For example, walk across Swing Bridge: a 45-metre long wrought-iron structure was built in 1883 across the La Trobe River. Take the Sale heritage walk which focuses on the main buildings of historic interest: 27 buildings that all have their own unique history. Or, head to the Sale Historical Museum. Built in 1863, it’s a beautiful place to learn about Sale’s past and marvel at the collection of artefacts on display. 

You’ll likely want to sample the food on offer in Sale. There are plenty of delicious restaurants waiting to be discovered, like the Criterion Hotel, where the seasonal menu is always impressive. The kitchen promises to always use the freshest ingredients while supporting other local businesses: you’ll be in for a delicious evening while dining here. Other notable spots in Sale include Redd Catt, the Gippsland Hotel and Mister Raymond. 

Explore Gippsland with Thrifty

Tarra-Bulga National Park is just over an hour’s drive from the main town of Sale. It’s filled with lush gullies, giant trees, and beautiful rainforest. There are a number of walking tracks available to discover, for example, Tarra Falls or the Fern Gully Nature Walk, which includes beautiful views across the suspension bridge. Bring your sense of adventure while here as this national park is filled with endless nature, wildlife, and local fauna and flora. It’s simply spectacular from start to finish and makes the perfect day trip from Sale. 

Another beautiful spot is Ninety Mile Beach. Regarded as one of Victoria’s best-kept secrets, this stretch of untouched beaches are full of gorgeous coastal towns, epic views, and paradise vibes. Plan for an epic beach day on the golden shores as you watch the blue waves crash on the beach. It’s only a half-hour drive from the town of Sale, which means that you can easily head here after breakfast for a morning on the coast, or after lunch to spend an afternoon of fun, before a beautiful sunset over the ocean. 

Sale and the Gippsland region are simply beautiful and waiting to be discovered.
