Orange has a mild climate that is usually warm and temperate. In summer, you can expect the scorching dry heat that’s common in these inland areas. Winter is typically cooler, but you can simply wrap up warm and embrace all that Orange has to offer. Another great time to go is in autumn, as Orange comes alive with vibrant colours.
Orange is truly a thriving country town. Situated in the Central Tablelands, it has an interesting history, award-winning restaurants, thriving wineries and stunning scenery, Orange is the perfect place for a Thrifty adventure.
There is always something to do in Orange. Famed for its produce, Orange has a thriving dining scene, as well as stunning wineries, and cafes - in fact, it’s simply a foodies delight. If you’d like a more in-depth food stay, time your visit with the Orange F.O.O.D Week in April, or for the Orange Wine Month in October. Both will be fantastic!
Keep a lookout for any local delicious restaurants like Sisters Rock, The Union Bank, and Lolli Redini. For a more casual affair or a cafe stop, try out places like Nile Street Cafe, Byng Street Local Store, and Anything Grows. Make sure to try the homemade sausage rolls at Anything Grows - they’re hugely popular amongst locals.
Of course, no visit to Orange is complete without a stop at a winery or two! Check out the local wines at Swinging Bridge, Ross Hill, or Heifer Station. There are so many to choose from, and we know that you’ll enjoy them all. Of course, we must insert a safety warning that these wineries should be enjoyed with a designated driver. Please always pay attention to local traffic laws.
You have to check out the local shops and galleries while you’re here - no visit to a rural NSW town is complete without it. The Corner Store Boutique Gallery is a favourite amongst visitors and locals alike so be sure to spend a visit - you’ll easily spend an hour or so browsing the shelves.
No trip to Orange is complete without some form of road trip; whether it’s around the city itself or the surrounding areas, you’ll need to spend time exploring while you are here!
If you want some stunning views, visit Pinnacle Reserve and Lookout. At the top of the lookout, you’ll have views of Towac Valley. Stop here for a while and enjoy a picnic while you enjoy the views of Orange and beyond! Nearby is Mount Canobolas. This is an ancient volcano with many different walks, like the Spring Glade walking track.
Further afield is the town of Canowindra, which is known as the ballooning capital of Australia! Drive out here to enjoy the skies with one of the many local operators in the town. Canowindra is also part of the Cowra wine region, so make sure to pick up a local wine or two while you’re exploring. Two hours away is another huge wine town, Mudgee. You’ll enjoy endless food and wine here at the competing food and wine capital to Orange.
