Drive Your Rental Car Around Singleton and Receive a Cultural Hit

Singleton has several museums to enjoy. Start off with the Australian Army Infantry Museum, just an 8-minute drive outside town in your rental car. See a large collection of Australian Infantry equipment and artefacts, ranging from state colonial armies to the First World War and modern time. The collection is immaculately displayed in a modern gallery, featuring uniforms to firearms, informative displays and war relics. The exhibition is divided into two sections; the ground floor displays a chronological history of Australian infantry deployment, from Sudan in 1885 to the modern infantry in the Middle East. The Mezzanine focuses on small arms, tactics, techniques and procedures. The site is free entry for Australian Defence Force Members, prices for citizens can be found on the Australian Army Infantry Museum website.

Other sites worth visiting include the Singleton Historical Society, housed in the former old council chambers. At the SHS, you can see a variety of artefacts relating to the history of Singleton and a records room with photographs and documents dating back to the early 1800s. Visit the Library Gallery Space to see artworks from local artists, with the space exclusively reserved for people living in the area.

History and art are best paired with a glass of wine, so once you’re finished enjoying Singleton’s museums, art, and parks, take a drive to one of the many wineries in the Hunter Valley and enjoy cellar door experiences, fantastic food and unique accommodations - just make sure you have a designated driver with you.
