Car Rental Griffith Airport

Griffith is in the heart of the Riverina region of New South Wales and is best-known for its fantastic produce and world-class wines. Fly into Griffith Airport, and you are only a five-minute drive from the CBD. Within driving distance of other small regional towns and the city of Wagga Wagga, which sits just a two-hour drive away, there is plenty to do in this region of the world.

Griffith has everything you would expect from a large regional city. It’s an excellent place to sit back, relax, and make room for the region's fantastic food. Known as the food bowl of Australia, an irrigation system set in place over 100 years ago has fed the area turning it into lush grazing and farming land. After the end of the first World War, many migrants came to the area and added a culturally diverse flavour to both the town and the food. Around 60% of the town today now claim Italian descent, with many of the region's wineries established by Italian immigrants, such as De Bortoli and Rosetto wineries.

Try the fantastic cellar door experiences at one of the many wineries within a short driving distance from Griffith. De Bortoli, Tarran, and Calabria Family ones are just three of the top wineries in the region. Ensure you have a designated driver and experience these wineries through a guided tour. If you wish to learn more about the Italian heritage in the region, visit the Griffith Italian Museum, located inside the Pioneer Park Museum, or celebrate by eating their food and enjoying their wine responsibly during the Multicultural Festival in October.

Beautiful sites are Easily Accessible with a Car Hire

There are some fantastic places to drive just outside Griffith in your rental car. The number one local nature spot is Hermit's Cave, a four-minute drive up Scenic Drive on the northern outskirts of town. Sitting high on a ridge, the cave was once the home of famous miner Valerio Ricetti from Broken Hill. Valerio lived as a hermit transforming the area to include a garden and chapel. It is an interesting story and a stunning location, with a number of walking trails surrounding the cave.

Oolambeyan National Park is just a 1.5-hour drive from Griffith. Enjoy bird watching, walking and picnicking. Here you can see many native Australian animals, including kangaroos and emus. See the historic buildings and enjoy the pink-red waves of galahs that nest in the trees. Overnight camping is also available.

Take in the Top Sites in Griffith with your Rental Car

Take your car hire around Griffith and enjoy the sites it has to offer. With many heritage buildings to see, you can take yourself on a self-driving tour around town. Step into the Griffith War Memorial Museum to see many items of military history, focusing on the military history of settlers in the region. Here, you will see history from Australia's involvement in World War I, World War II, the Vietnam War and the War in Afghanistan.

The Griffith Regional Art Gallery is located inside an eye-catching 1930's art deco building located right in the heart of the city. The gallery has held up to 10 separate exhibitions in a single year, from local, national and international artists.

The Griffith Pioneer Park Museum is just a few minutes’ drive outside the CBD, between the airport and the city. The museum includes several buildings, including the Italian Museum, Griffith Main Street, Wine Museum and over 40 historic buildings.
