The number one local nature spot is Hermit's Cave, a four-minute drive up Scenic Drive on the northern outskirts of town. Sitting high on a ridge, the cave was once the home of famous miner Valerio Ricetti from Broken Hill. Valerio lived as a hermit transforming the area to include a garden and chapel. It is an interesting story and a stunning location, with a number of walking trails surrounding the cave. 

Oolambeyan National Park is just a 1.5-hour drive from Griffith. Enjoy bird watching, walking and picnicking. Here you can see many native Australian animals, including kangaroos and emus. See the historic buildings and enjoy the pink-red waves of galahs that nest in the trees. Overnight camping is also available.
