If you’re interested in the history and heritage of the area, we suggest you get to know the town via the 4.5 -kilometre Muswellbrook Heritage Walk, which features 40 historical points of interest. From colonial buildings to grand residences and a railway station dating back to the 19th century, this walk is a great way to get to know the area.
Visit the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre to discover some influential Australian contemporary artists. Built in 1871 as the School of Arts, this beautiful museum now features the famous Max Watters collection of works.
Of course, if you’re in the Hunter region, you’ll likely want to try out some of the delicious wines made locally in the area. We’d like to remind you that it’s important to try these wines in a responsible way. Always have a designated driver on-hand and abide by local traffic laws. Muswellbrook is home to some fine wineries, like Small Forest, a boutique winery guided by the first female winemaker in Japan, or Two Rivers Wine, which has been in operation since 1988.
If wine isn’t your thing, there are some delicious alternative options if you’d still like to try out some of the locally made food, here. For example, the Hunter Belle Cheese features gourmet handmade cheeses, and Pukara Estate is a delicious place to try some of the locally made olive oils.

Barrington Tops is a short drive from Muswellbrook and features World-Heritage listed rainforests. In fact, it’s part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. This is one of the largest temperate rainforests in mainland Australia, and it’s full of diverse habitats, incredible views, and a wide range of animals.
Take one of the many hikes available while here, like the Polblue Falls, which sits on the plateau of the park and offers views of one of the prettiest waterfalls here. There are many short walks, longer hikes, and even overnight ones too, depending on your experience level and sense of adventure. However short your stay might be while staying in Muswellbrook, we’d always recommend taking the time to venture out to this destination. It’s simply beautiful.
