With a strong focus on the aviation history of New South Wales, check out their collection of military jets, bombers, carrier planes and other unique aircraft. In addition, there is a collection of artefacts, photographs, documents and military tech. The F111 Museum is just minutes from the centre of town in your car rental.

If you want to learn more about the history of the area, pay a visit to the Evans Head Living Museum, located in the Evans Head Downtown on the banks of the Evans River. The museum covers periods and themes including WWII, Aboriginal history and culture, sport, mining, agriculture, fishing, and the natural environment. 

Along with these attractions, there are a series of stunning white sand beaches, the Evans River, which flows through town, parks and parklands, and restaurants and boutique shops.

Take Your Rental Car Out and About in Evans Head

Part of Evans Head's charm is its coastal position, with other stunning regional towns and cities only a short drive away, making perfect day trip locations. Byron Bay is only 45-minutes north of Evans Head, and is the most popular of the coastal towns in Northern New South Wales. Byron Bay is a popular international and national tourist destination, and features art galleries, museums, beaches, a wide range of restaurants, boutique shops, health and wellness centres and access to its own stunning beaches and parks. If you are interested in some coastal shopping, Byron Bay has a much larger selection of shops, with high-end fashion and unique gift ideas easy to find. Take in one of the farmer's markets for fresh produce, homemade jewellery, and other arts and crafts. Known as a party town, many hotels, bars and nightclubs are open late. 

The drive from Evans Head to Byron Bay is certainly worth it. Make sure you dedicate an entire day or two to the endeavour with coastal towns such as Ballina and Lennox Head located between Evans Head and Byron Bay.

Take in Even More Nature in a Car Hire

If the drive from Evans Head to Byron Bay doesn't satisfy your nature needs, then take in some of the national parks close by to Evans Head. 45 minutes south of Evans Head is the Bundjalung National Park. Bundjalung offers the best of both worlds, with stunning land and aquatic activities available, such as bushwalking, cycling, car drives in your car hire, scuba diving, kayaking and more. Walk along the 10-mile beach, or head inland to catch a glimpse of some native animals, including wallabies, emus, sea eagles, koalas, monitor lizards and colour changing frogs.

8 minutes north of Evans Head is the Broadwater National Park. The park shares a beach with Evans Head that is known for its whale-watching opportunities. With swamps, marshlands, forests and beaches, it has a diverse landscape filled with plants and animals. Some of the local residents include the elusive echidna, two separate species of wallaby, bandicoots and possums.
