Situated just an 80 minutes drive from Devonport is the epic Cradle Mountain. This is one of Tasmania’s top attractions and it’s easy to see why, with glacial lakes underneath dramatic mountain peaks - it’s the perfect place to explore. Get out your hiking boots and choose from one of the many walks available - Marion’s Lookout is a hit with many. Every turn is a picture-perfect moment, so have your camera (safe) and ready!
If you fancy a city day instead, then let’s head to Launceston. This is just an hour’s drive from Devonport Downtown, an easy day trip. It’s Tasmania’s second-largest city and one of the oldest in Australia! Bring your bathers and explore Cataract Gorge Reserve, which features panoramic views over the South Esk River, Victorian gardens, ample wildlife, a swimming pool, and the world’s longest single-span chairlift! You’ll have plenty to do and see while in this gorgeous city.
You don’t have to travel far to have a great time while in Devonport! In fact, there’s always something to see and do in this busy city. Devonport is the home to Spirit of Tasmania passenger ferry, so is a busy port for all travellers from mainland Australia. While it’s known to many as a solid hub for exploring the northwest of Tasmania, we think it’s a pretty magical city to stay in for a few days too - and here’s why!
You can spend your days exploring the city and its surroundings on foot or by bike, as there are plenty of walking and cycling tracks throughout the city. Why not go cycle to The Bluff and go check out the local Aboriginal rock carvings? Or, get on the Don River Railway steam train and head to Coles Beach to have a day in the sand and sea.
