Welcome to Devonport Airport! This is the start of your northern Tasmania adventure, so buckle up, because you’re in for an incredible ride. Devonport is a beautiful town that sits in the north of the state - where the Mersey River meets the Bass Strait. A thriving coastal city, Devonport is the gateway to many Tasmanian adventures.
Devonport has a warm and temperate climate. However, as with many parts of Tasmania, it’s partial to large amounts of rainfall during the year. Those lush green landscapes wouldn’t be possible without the rain! So, don’t be dismayed with any weather forecast, but do pack a rain jacket. You’ll still have a blast in Devonport and surrounding areas regardless of any rainfall.
Devonport Airport is the start of your north Tasmania adventure. Enjoy the rivers, oceans, and mountainous landscapes as you take to the roads with your Thrifty rental.
Devonport Airport is the perfect place to start your city adventure in this Tasmanian beauty. There’s always something to see and do during your stay in Devonport. As it’s home to the Spirit of Tasmania passenger ferry, Devonport is often a busy and bustling place, full of tourists and travellers from mainland Australia and beyond! While many use it as a hub to kick off the rest of their Tasmanian adventure, we think it’s a pretty magical place to stay awhile, too.
Whether you want to explore Devonport by car, foot, or bike, the option is there for you! Head out for some fresh air and cycle to The Bluff to check out the local Aboriginal rock carvings for an afternoon adventure. Or, have a day of sand and sea at Coles Beach. You can get there via the Don River Railway steam train!
For history lovers, there’s plenty to do and see while you’re here. Learn about the city’s maritime history at the Bass Strait Maritime Center. Alternatively, head to the Devonport Regional Gallery and see Tasmanian artwork for yourself!
Let’s hit the roads of Northern Tasmania! Devonport is the perfect place to start your Tasmanian road trip, as it’s close to some iconic places, like Launceston and Cradle Mountain.
Just over an hour away is one of Tasmania’s most famous sights - Cradle Mountain. A top attraction, this mountain has it all, from glacier lakes to dramatic peaks, gorgeous snow and native fauna and flora. It’s truly the perfect place to explore. Make sure you pack some hiking boots for this trip because you’re going to need them! There are many walks available, from a casual walk around the lake to the epic heights of Marion’s Lookout. Make sure to have your camera ready at all times, because this place is a cracker from every angle.
Northern Tasmania can be the perfect city escape if that’s what you’re after!
