Where is the branch located?
Off Pacific Highway, Artarmon. Only a 15-20-minute walk from Artarmon and St Leonards Stations. Free council shuttle bus from St Leonards to drop you off on our adjacent cross streets.
Artarmon is situated just a 9 kilometre drive from Sydney’s CBD in your Thrifty car hire. Artarmon serves as a great base of operations for a Sydney holiday due to its convenience, stores, supermarkets and relaxed atmosphere. With beautiful parks, it is a great place to return to after a day of site-seeing around Sydney. Come back to a suburb full of restaurants and café’s; you won’t have to walk far from where you’re staying to find dining of every sort, on every budget. The area has a particular emphasis on Asian restaurants, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have everything else as well.
Drive down to the waterfront after booking a whale watching tour. Setting out from Sydney during June-July is the best time, but whales can be seen from May through to November. Many of the whale watching tours will also pass by other notable attractions on the Sydney waterfront. It’s hard to pass up the opportunities to see one of the most incredible creatures on earth. Even if you’re not so lucky and fail to see any of the large mammals, the boat ride itself is a fun day out, with sea views of the city, including the Botanic Gardens and the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Perhaps the most famous beach in the world. Bondi Beach is even more prominent than the suburb it sits in, also called Bondi. So, soak up some sunshine while remembering to wear proper sun protection. Travel around and find somewhere nice for dinner, do some shopping, hit the bars, play volleyball, or just people-watch for a while. At a 20-30 minute drive from Artarmon, Bondi beach is an excellent day out with plenty to do on the beach and in the surrounding area.
The Sydney Aquarium, Sea Life is just a 15 to 20-minute journey by car from Artarmon. With sharks, turtles and a local favourite, Pig the Dugong. The aquarium is also home to tropical reef fish, predatory fish, ocean fish, penguins, stingrays, seahorses, and cephalopods (octopus, squid and cuttlefish), jellyfish and more. Watching the jellyfish bobble about can be quite hypnotic, so don’t lose track of time if you have other plans.
Australia’s most iconic building is just 15-20 minutes away by car from Artarmon. The Sydney Opera House is viewable from many angles and locations, drive around and find the perfect shot. Then, see a show by Opera Australia, the Australian Ballet, The Sydney Theatre Company or the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Much of the Opera House is free to access by the public, so make sure to charge your phone if you’re planning on taking pictures because you’ll end up with a lot of them. Once you’re done admiring the building itself, try one of the dozens of bars, restaurants, pubs and cafes in the immediate area. There is even a bar inside the Opera House itself, the aptly named Opera Bar.
15 minutes by car can also see you at Luna Park Sydney. Opened in 1935, the park is the definition of good old-fashioned fun. If you’re looking for some great views of the harbour, an unconventional way to see them is on one of the many roller coasters or other high rise rides.
These locations are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what’s available to you from Artarmon. Taronga Zoo, Manly Beach, The Australian Museum, Sydney Harbour National Park, The Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Royal Botanic Garden are also fantastic holiday and travel destinations, all within a short driving distance from Artarmon. So, happy driving and enjoy the best of Sydney.
