GPS Unit

Why take the risk?

Nowadays many rely on their smart phone to provide reliable car navigation – but there are a few problems with using these devices in Australia. In Tasmania you are only allowed to use your phone as a GPS if it is in a cradle and the driver does not have to touch it while driving, in the rest of Australia it must be placed in a hands free mount. Penalties for disobeying these laws can be heavy.

The other problem with using your phone is that it will only work in areas with a wifi network, in a country as vast as Australia, drop-outs are not uncommon.

Thrifty's GPS units are loaded with the most up-to-date maps available and do not require wifi to operate. They also provide advanced lane guidance to help you navigate safely across the roads. We don't risk it while travelling and neither should you – book your GPS with your rental!
