Things to see and do with a car rental in Parkes

Parkes is well inland from Sydney, so it offers plenty of great sights that you certainly won’t find in the city.

The Parkes Satellite Dish is just 20 kilometres north of town, and is one of the best attractions in the area. It’s a massive 64-metre-wide dish with a unique history, and is accompanied by an astronomy resource centre with plenty of souvenirs, displays and a 3D theatre. You can also grab a bite to eat at the café on site.

However, if it’s art you’re interested in, you could always drive half an hour down to Forbes to visit the Platypus Gallery. This is the place to see and buy works from local artists from the region, and it’s known for always having something interesting in store.

Meanwhile, wine lovers can indulge in the endless cellar doors and vineyards in the Orange region, only an hour east of Parkes. You can try plenty of tastings and snacks along the way – just be sure to appoint a designated driver for the trip!

Pick up a few more tips and pieces of inspiration for what to do with your Parkes rental car on the Thrifty blog.
