Things to see and do with a rental car in Broome

Camel_Riding_Cable_Beach_440x240
Broome is best known for its beaches, so they are a definite must-see when you’re in the area. Cable Beach is the most famous, with its turquoise waters and pure white sand. It’s the perfect spot to go for a swim, watch the sun set over the ocean, or try something completely different and go for an unforgettable camel trek along the sand.

But if beaches aren’t your thing, there’s still plenty to enjoy in the great outdoors. Roebuck Bay, the Dampier Peninsula and the Mimbi Caves are just a few examples of the incredible natural attractions in the area.

You can also check out the Matsos Broome Brewery for a cool craft beer, learn about the area’s heritage at the Broome Historical Museum, or visit the Artlandish Aboriginal Art Gallery in Kununurra for some local culture.

Tips and advice when visiting the Broome region

  • Broome Airport rentals are not permitted to go farther than 150km south of Broome.
  • Many vehicles are only allowed to be driven on sealed roads
  • Thrifty at Broome Airport will supply you with a list of places you can and cannot drive with your specific rental, as some areas around the region are 4WD only, while others are strictly off-limits to all cars (such as beaches).
  • We always recommend contacting the branch ahead of time to ensure the vehicle you have booked is suited to the conditions of the area you will be travelling to.
  • We advise against driving between the hours of dusk and dawn outside of the town limits, as animal damage is not covered under Thrifty’s Damage Recovery Fees
