Are you looking for an island destination with fun activities and breathtaking natural beauty? Then Phillip Island is the answer to your travel prayers.

From Thrifty Melbourne it’s around a 2 hour drive through beautiful Victorian landscape until you reach the tranquil island, known for its laid-back beach lifestyle.

Things to see and do

Whether you visit Phillip Island for relaxation or adventure, there will be something to fulfill your holiday appetite. From helicopter flights, kayaking, fishing, boating, surfing and plenty more, you will find what you are looking for on Phillip Island. If you love nature, then the Australian Garden is a must, with an array of native plants and lush gardens to meander your way through.

Native animals abound

Phillip Island is a great place to bring the kids thanks to the many animal reserves, such as the Koala Conservation Centre and Maru Koala and Animal Park. It will also please overseas visitors- with many longing to get up close and personal with our native furry friends and get a photo or two.
Many holiday-goers also visit Phillip Island to see the humpback whale migration that starts in June, so keep your eyes peeled for these majestic sea creatures. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. You can get up close with them by going on one of the coastal cruises or a helicopter flight over the island. The area is also internationally known for its cute penguins that waddle home at sunset after a hard day of fishing.

Surfs up

Phillip Island is known for its incredibly picturesque surf beaches, drawing locals year round, as well as die-hard surfers, body boarders or international travelers keen to see a great Aussie surf beach. In the summer months, the island brings thousands of tourists to its shores, and so booking accommodation ahead is recommended.

From the main beach in Cowes (the heart of the island and also where every second store is a surf shop) to Ventnor Beach, Cape Woolamai and Smiths Beach- a plethora of beaches to catch some sun or have a surf are a stone’s throw away once you are on Phillip Island.

Alternatively, for hard-core surfers, the aptly named ‘Surf Beach’ is your go-to for massive waves and a strong current- but is advised against for swimming at or for anyone who isn’t a strong swimmer. Enter with caution!
