Did you know there are a whopping 19 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Australia?

UNESCO, which stands for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, nominates sites that are of outstanding universal value. If they meet one of ten criteria, they become listed as a protected and preserved site in their country.

Each one of these incredible and famous landmarks in Australia should be found on everyone’s bucket list. They’re our national treasures, and we’re pretty darn proud of them.

So why wait? Use the infographic above to select your favourites and hit the road! The beauty of these sites is that you’ll be able to enjoy trips all year round.

Escaping the brutal Melbourne winter? Head up north to Kakadu or Uluru-Kate Tjuta National Parks. Had enough of the dry heat in Queensland? Plan a cultural weekend around Sydney and the famous Sydney Opera House.

Bear in mind that some of these World Heritage Sites can only be accessed by 4WD. Luckily Thrifty can sort you out with one from our SUV and 4WD range so simply look online or head into your local Thrifty car hire location. Most sites, however, are fine with a comfortable cruiser (again, Thrifty’s got you covered) or a local tour operator.
