It’s finally here! The super-popular Vivid Festival has returned to Sydney, running events all across the city from May 26 to June 17.

This stunning, creative festival that organisers call “a festival of lights, music and ideas” will light up Sydney’s most iconic hotspots for three weeks this winter, so there’s no reason to hibernate at home through the first frosty weeks of the season! The chilly months can be truly magical in this world-famous city, especially with all the glittering light installations to take in.

Lights that dazzle

The “light” section is the result of the hard work of many lighting designers and artists. Wrap up in your winter woollies, grab some friends or family, and head out to see the various “light art” sculptures and installations dotting the city. The best bit? It’s all free! Vivid’s official website has great itineraries for numerous “light walks” you can do in different areas of the city, and what you can expect to see along the way. Wandering the Harbour City with a hot chocolate in hand, taking in the epic lighting shows dotting the city? Sounds like a plan.

Turn up the music

The “music” element of the Vivid Festival showcases an amazing range of local and international musicians. On top of exposing new talent to music-loving crowds in smaller venues all over the city, there is also Vivid Live. This is a program of musical events that are all taking place at that famous landmark of ours – The Sydney Opera House.

Revolutionary ideas and innovations

The “ideas” portion of the festival is an opportunity for business owners, entrepreneurs and creative leaders to get together and discuss innovation and imagination in their relevant sectors. Whether you want to be inspired, meet like-minded people or just want to see what all the fuss is about, head along to one of the organised events. There are discussions and lectures on all manner of topics, including writing, ArtScience, media, and leadership, amongst many others!

Find out more about the festival fun

Vivid Festival’s program of everything that’s going on is available on their website. There is also information on the best ways to get into the city to attend all of these fantastic events.

Not a Sydney local but would love to get involved in this terrific festival? The website details various deals for interstate tourists looking to fly in to check out what all the fuss is about. With deals for flights, accommodation and Vivid events all bundled together, it’s super easy to just book and head to Sydney for a short getaway!

No matter whether you are a lover of all things lighting, a keen muso or a thinker with a creative flair, the Vivid Festival is an absolute must!
