About New South Wales

NSW is a mainland state in Australia and home to around 6.2 million people, most of whom (71%) live in the capital city being Sydney. NSW is also Australia's oldest and most populated state due to the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788. Today, Sydney is well known for the Harbour Bridge, The Rocks, the Opera House and many beautiful beaches. When driving around Sydney try to visit some of these beaches, including the famous Bondi beach, Manly Beach and if you are up to it take a drive up the Northern Beaches to Palm Beach.

Driving in New South Wales

If you are not flying into Sydney or one of the other regional airports, driving to Sydney will take around ten hours from Melbourne and is a distance of 882 kilometres the majority of which is driven on the Hume Highway. Driving from Brisbane to Sydney is slightly longer at 930 kilometres and should take around 12 hours, along the Pacific Highway. Both trips will allow you to experience the beautiful NSW scenery.

Exploring New South Wales

Once you get out of Sydney head for the Blue Mountains and experience the Three Sisters at Echo Point. Alternatively head south to Wollongong or further and experience the southern beaches especially Hyams Beach as well as the various wineries along the way. Going north will get you into the Hunter Valley wine region, all the way to the most easterly point of Australia being the beautiful Byron bay. NSW is a great place to see and easy to drive.
