Day 1: HAMILTON - HORSHAM
Your first day takes you to Hamilton where you can experience some of the history of country Australia. Hamilton's claims to be the wool capital of the world - easy to believe when you consider that within 80km radius of the town, there are approximately six million sheep. Visit the Big Wool bales for the full story on the local industry. Hamilton also offers botanic gardens, an art gallery and breath-taking views of the regions ancient volcanic activity at the nearby Mt Napier State Park. Finish the day up with afternoon tea in Horsham.

Day 2: HORSHAM - STAWELL
For those who love adventure, a drive to the nearby summit of Mt Arapiles is rewarding. Not only does it have spectacular views, but it has fast become one of the most popular climbing and abseiling destinations in Australia. With more than 2000 designated climbs, Mt Arapiles has climbs for all skill levels.
From Horsham, head towards Stawell, travelling via the holiday town of Halls Gap. Drop into the Grampians National Park Visitor Centre. Here you can find all the information that you need for visiting the Park.

Day 3: STAWELL - ARARAT
The rich past of Stawell is evident on the Stawell Heritage Drive. Gold was first discovered in Stawell in 1853 and only five years later 20,000 people were seeking their fortune on the local gold fields.
On your way to Ararat, stop in at Great Western for some wine tasting at the cellar doors. Established in 1857, Ararat is the only town in Australia to be founded by Chinese. A visit to the Gum San Chinese Heritage centre is recommended.

Day 4: ARARAT - MELBOURNE
For those that love to fish, nearby Green Hill Lake offers excellent fishing and boating conditions. One last look around Ararat before heading down to Melbourne. Choose to spend an extra day to discover Melbourne or head to Tullamarine Airport to return your Thrifty rental car and to meet your flight. |
