 Day 1: MELBOURNE - SORRENTO
Collect your Thrifty rental car on arrival at Melbourne Airport or the Melbourne city office at 390 Elizabeth Street and head south to the bayside suburb of St Kilda. Here you can enjoy morning tea at one of the many street cafés. A visit to the St Kilda Pier is a must; a Melbourne landmark, the pier provides panoramic views of the city of Melbourne and Port Phillip Bay.
From St Kilda, take the Beach road south to the Mornington Peninsula National Park. Here you can explore the area on a nature walk, swim at one of the ocean beaches or enjoy the views from Arthur's Seat. Dine at one of Sorrento's many restaurants for some of the best food on the Peninsula. Why not try a wine from one of the Peninsulas local wineries.

Day 2: QUEENSCLIFF - MELBOURNE
(Take the Queenscliff / Sorrento Ferry.) The historic town of Queenscliff, located on the southern shores of Port Phillip Bay, offers plenty to do. One of the most popular destinations in the area, Queenscliff has Victorian-era architecture, excellent swimming and snorkelling, golf and a steam railway.
Geelong, Victoria's second largest city is next stop on your journey. Visit on a weekend and an afternoon at the AFL (Aussie Rules football) is an experience not to be missed. You can also catch a show at the Performing Arts Centre. On the way back to Melbourne, stop in at Victoria's Open Range Zoo in Werribee and get up close and personal with some of the bigger animals usually found on the African savannah.

Day 3 (extra day optional) - MELBOURNE
South of the mouth of Melbourne's Yarra River is the historic town of Williamstown. See the Botanic Gardens, the first in suburban Melbourne, established in 1860. The gardens are regarded among the best in Australia, full of colour, palms, and rare 19th century specimens. For lunch, there is nothing quite the same as a beach picnic overlooking Port Phillip Bay and the city skyline. Spend the afternoon at leisure in the city before returning your Thrifty rental car. |
